1. Who we are

Costa Rica Caribbean operates costaricacaribbean.com, an online guide connecting visitors with beaches, restaurants, activities, events, local services, transport information, and places to stay in Costa Rica’s South Caribbean.

For privacy inquiries, contact hola@costaricacaribbean.com. Our public contact location is Manzanillo, Limón, Costa Rica.

2. Information we collect

The information we collect depends on the services you use:

  • Information you submit: name, email address, telephone number, WhatsApp contact details, messages, business details, event or listing submissions, and accommodation inquiry information.
  • Usage and technical information: pages viewed, referring pages, approximate location inferred from technical information, browser and device type, IP address, user-agent data, timestamps, QR-code scan source and placement, clicks, and interactions with listed businesses or contact buttons.
  • AI assistant interactions: messages you enter into Coco, and—only when you use voice features—audio, transcripts, or other data needed to process those features. The specific information handled may depend on the voice or AI service enabled at that time.
  • Cookies and similar technologies: identifiers and usage information collected through analytics, translation, and other enabled third-party services.

Please do not submit passwords, payment card numbers, passport numbers, sensitive medical information, or other unnecessary sensitive details through public forms or Coco.

3. How we use information

We use information to operate and improve the site, answer inquiries, handle business and event submissions, connect visitors with relevant third parties, track QR campaigns and contact-button performance, prevent abuse, analyze site performance, and operate features such as translation and Coco AI.

When required by applicable law, we seek consent for particular uses of personal information. Other processing may be necessary to respond to a request, provide a requested service, satisfy a legal obligation, or pursue a legitimate operational purpose where permitted by law.

4. Analytics, QR codes, and cookies

Our website uses traffic-measurement technologies, including Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager, and internal QR-code and click-tracking systems. These tools help us understand visits, QR scans, popular destinations, device usage, referral sources, and activity on the site.

Our internal tracking can record IP addresses, device and browser information, referral details, the QR location/source, and timestamps. Analytics services may place cookies or use similar identifiers according to their settings. Browser controls may allow you to block or delete cookies, although some features could work differently.

Any cookie banner or consent controls presented on the site should be used to manage optional tracking. Merely publishing this policy does not itself establish cookie consent.

5. Third-party services and external links

To provide the website we may rely on third-party services, including Google analytics and maps products, the site's Google translation/GTranslate integration, WhatsApp, hosting and security providers, and AI or speech technology providers when Coco features are enabled.

Translation services may process page content and use technical identifiers. Clicking a partner's website, WhatsApp link, booking link, or other external service takes you to an independent provider with its own privacy practices. We recommend reviewing those providers' policies before sharing information.

Where third-party providers process personal information for us, it may be processed outside Costa Rica, subject to applicable legal requirements and appropriate contractual or technical safeguards.

6. Coco AI and voice features

Coco is an automated travel-information assistant. Messages submitted to Coco may be transmitted to technology providers to generate responses, prevent misuse, or provide the requested features. If voice features are available and you choose to use them, voice input or generated audio may also be processed by speech-service providers.

Do not share sensitive personal data with the assistant. AI answers can be incomplete or inaccurate, particularly for prices, schedules, safety conditions, and other changing information; confirm important information directly with the relevant provider.

7. Sharing and retention

We may share the details needed to respond to an inquiry with the relevant participating business when you ask us to connect you, share information with service providers that help operate the site, or disclose information where legally required.

We do not offer visitors' contact-form details for sale as a contact list. Third-party advertising and analytics tools may collect information under their own terms when enabled.

We keep information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the relevant service, security, analytics, recordkeeping, or legal requirement, and then delete or anonymize it as appropriate. Actual periods depend on the type of record and applicable obligations.

8. Your choices, rights, and security

You may request information about your personal data, correction of inaccurate information, or deletion or other action available under applicable law by emailing hola@costaricacaribbean.com. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request.

We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards to protect information, but no transmission or storage system is guaranteed to be completely secure.

Costa Rica's Law No. 8968 regulates personal-data processing and provides a framework for individual rights and obligations. The Agencia de Protección de Datos de los Habitantes (PRODHAB) is the competent data-protection authority.

9. Children and policy updates

This website provides general travel information and is not intended to solicit personal information from children. If you believe a child has submitted personal information that should be removed, please contact us.

We may update this Privacy Policy when the website, technologies, or legal requirements change. The date shown at the top of this page indicates when it was last updated.
